Single-Leaved Bog Orchid (Malaxis)

Overview

The inconspicuous and delicate Single-Leaved Bog Orchid has numerous, minute, light green flowers. As a special feature should be noted that the pedicel of all European plants is rotated by 360°, so that the lip points upwards. Only a few species show this phenomenon. Interestingly North American individuals have flowers, which are only rotated by 180°, so that the lip points downwards. You can find the Single-Leaved Bog Orchid especially in Northern and Central Europe, where it prefers moist habitats. Partly you can find the plant in lightly forests, but also in fens or in moist mountain meadows.
